It might not be one of the BIG 5 (or now 6) marathon majors but the Loch Ness Marathon is usually on the “Bucket List” of most marathon runners. The question I have is what captures the hearts of runners to make the trip up to Loch Ness?
Is it the international fame of the mysterious Loch Ness Monster and a chance to look across the ancient waters of Loch Ness in the hope for catching a glimpse of him or is it simply for runners to enjoy the gorgeous natural beauty of the Scottish Highlands?
Only just this week and completely out of the blue, the Loch Ness Marathon have very kindly offered me a place to come and see for myself. As this race has also been on my “to do” list, it was an offer I couldn’t refuse.
I entered yesterday and the race is in 3 days time so not much time to prepare before I get my own chance to find out why this marathon draws thousands of runners each year. I’m really looking forward to it and can’t wait to tell you if I get to see the elusive monster.
I’d better take my camera, you never know I might be one of the lucky few to capture a snap of the beast’s body snaking out of the waters.
