The Hunt for Nessy (Part 1)

I was lucky enough to fly up to Inverness on Saturday morning although it meant getting up at 5am. After arriving I first went to the Loch Ness marathon expo which was held in Bught Park on the banks of the river Ness in Inverness. There I picked up my race number and browsed through the expo in a large marquee. Afterwards I travelled to Loch Ness for a one and a half hour Jacobite boat cruise on the waters of the Loch. I was surprised how choppy the waters were, with some of the waves two or three feet high albeit was a rather windy day. Even so the cruise was fairly smooth and comfortable. The cruise took us to see the ruins of Urqhart castle before returning.

The waters in the Loch were incredibly dark, I was told this was because of the peat in the area and the depth if the water, which is over 700 feet in parts, plenty of places for wee Ness to hide. Shame I never got to see Nessy. If you come up to Inverness I would recommend this trip if you have the time. For more information follow the link below:-

I rounded off Saturday by returning to the second marquee in Bught Park, to enjoy the pre-race pasta party then had an enjoyable walk along the gorgeous, wide, shallow River Ness which slowly flows through Inverness, over looked by the castle before retiring to my hotel for the required early night’s sleep in preparation for the early start the next morning.
