Weather
Good weather today, dry, light cloud and some sunshine. The wind once again was in my face going south down the west side of the lake but nice and sheltered on the return.
I had gone to bed with the left calf sore. I had treatment before the race. Was it going to be enough to get me round? It didn’t seem too bad but I feared the worst. After four uncomfortable miles to Hawkshead things seemed to improve but after mile 8 things all my hopes fell to pieces. I felt terrible around mile 10, not half way and having to walk.
At mile 14 I met Steve Edwards which perked me up and at Bowness, Mac and the Body Rehab team also gave me a boost.
Another one done and a few records made today, none of them good ones.
Personal worst marathon time.
Slowest mile I have ever recorded 17 minutes 33 seconds.
10 minutes in the ice bath today including 1 minute with the bubbles on, WOW!
Followed by icy massage, laser work and physio tape.
I wonder what tomorrow will bring?
Today’s Highlight
The master of this event is without a doubt Steve Edwards who has completed the event 4 times. He was out on the course giving us encouragement and running along side us. It was a great boost for me when at around 14 miles he ran along side me for a chat.
Today’s Big Surprise
When I got to the finish Yuk-Lam, Abbey and Lucas were there to greet me. This was a complete surprise as I wasn’t expecting them until tea time. Han Ket and Phil were also there lovely to see familiar faces after a painful run.
Today’s Low Point
I can’t remember whether it was mile 10 or 11 but I managed to run (well mostly walk) a mile in 17 minutes and 33 seconds! This was psychologically awful when I wasn’t even half way round.
