The family holiday this year was a week at Playa de Los Americas in Tenerife. We had a great time at the water parks, Aqua park and Siam park, the Jungle park and a trip up the impressive 3500 meter high volcano of Teidi. The weather was typical Tenerife weather hot and sunny with a pleasant breeze.
I took the week as a rest week from training as I knew it would be too warm for me to complete any reasonable distance training. I managed 4 runs just to keep things ticking over. There is good coastal path running from Playa de Los Americas to Los Cristianos which made a lovely dawn run. I passed many other runners each time I went along it before breakfast.
For my last run, the mountain goat in me wanted to go up a small hill between Los Americas and Los Cristianos, probably about 300 feet high. As I got to the top the dawn was just braking. There was a small pile of rocks holding up a crude wooden cross, I stopped at this point to take in the scenery.
No one was about and it was completely peaceful. I looked to my left and right over Los Americas and Los Cistianos the street lamps and lights in the hotels and signs were very colourful. I could see cars and lorries moving below like ants. The sun had not yet come up and the sky above was a deep dark blue but where the sky met the mountains the sky was bright orange.
This was one of them points in my life that I call a Malcy Moment. I wish I had had a camera with me.
Next week back to some more serious training and maybe another marathon!
