Sunshine! Fantastic!
Still fairly breezy and cold but really good weather and it makes me feel so much better.
After mentally having a dark day yesterday, today was a complete contrast and my mental state was like the weather sunny and bright. I find the weather directly affects me. Its day 5 and I’m tired and sore and when the weather is wet and horrible it makes so much harder to mentally keep the effort going that’s needed to get you round this marathon course.
Day 5 is ladies day, nothing too special but it has become tradition to let the ladies go first. Last year I understand some of the runners including the lads had their nails painted. This year there didn’t seem to be much importance from the runners to do anything but I decided to don my pink running gear. Yep it was the “Revenge of the Pink Panther”. If nothing else it gave Jim Meta more reason to keep referring to me as “Pinky”. It livened the day up and I do love a splash of colour. My pink cap, buff, shorts and laces clashing nicely with my yellow hi-viz running jacket!
People involved in the event and most of the spectators out on the course seemed to like the attire and it brought a smile to many faces. A few though had puzzled looks as though they didn’t know what to make of it all. I found this very funny.
Running wise, I had much better mental focus and it came across in the run. No negative split today but very steady running with equal splits. I might make this challenge seem easy but trust me it’s not. Just about every part of both of my legs are now hurting to some degree or another when touched. It’s strange but somehow with the right mental attitude I can keep making them run.
Half way there now, which is a boost. 131 miles down, 131 to go.
I was very impressed with physios Mel and Laura today who dared to go in the ice bath for 5 minutes and managed to complete their challenge, well done girls!
Today’s Highlight
In Hawkshead, the look on a local old lady’s face as I ran passed in my pink and hi-viz yellow wishing her a “Good morning”. I don’t think she knew what to make of me and my dress code!
