I’m so excited and pleased to announce I’ve been accepted by the Brathay Trust to be running in their 10 marathons in 10 days event next year, from 8th to 17th May 2015. I am 1 of only 15 runners accepted and feel very privileged. I just hope I can repay Brathay’s faith in me by making the most of this special opportunity with some good running, finishing the event and raising them plenty of money.
“You’ve done it twice before!” I hear you all say, I know I have but that doesn’t make it physically any easier but I suppose at least I know what is coming, although sometimes I’m not sure if that is a good thing or not!
I do love running marathons but I must admit after completing 140 of them I can’t say they are a serious challenge on their own any more but the Brathay 10in10 is always a considerable challenge with an awful lot of uncertainty as to how the event will unfold with running such a long way every day for 10 consecutive days. Pains and injuries build up over the days and mental determination plays a huge factor as the days roll on through the event.
“Why are you doing it again?” you maybe asking. Well I do love running and especially marathons. I like to push the human body and see what I can make it do. The 10in10 suits my abilities and gives me the chance to see how far I can push my body. I might have managed it twice before but that doesn’t mean I will comfortably do it again, it will take an awful lot of training again and a massive amount of determination over the 10 day event. After surgery last December on the cartilage in my right knee I want to challenge my body to see if it is still able to run 10 marathons in 10 days. Trust me, I won’t be taking it cautiously, I would still like to see if it is possible for me to do it faster than last time.
Also part of the challenge is to raise money for the Brathay Trust. They are a little known charity but do some great work with around 5000 young people each year, who come from disadvantaged back grounds, teaching them the skills to fulfil their potential so they can succeed in life, find employment and steer them away from a life of crime. I find raising money for Brathay as big a challenge as the 10 marathons themselves and once again hope to raise as much money as possible for them and hopefully more than last time.
I will be using my blog over the coming 8 months as a diary to report on the progress of my training and then in May during the event to record my daily progress as the event unfolds.
I hope you find my blog and this story as it unfolds over the coming months interesting. The training at times will be as hard as the event itself. I plan to be running around 20 marathons over the next 8 months as just part of my training to get me ready which for most would be a seriously daunting challenge, never mind the event itself. Please consider giving me a donation towards Brathay, any amount however small or large will be much appreciated.
I have set up a link on the right of my blog to my Just Giving page or you can use the link below:-
Thanks for spending time reading this.
Next stop Halifax marathon on 31th August to kick start my autumn training, maybe see you there.
