On Monday night as I was turning my computer off when I noticed a mention that the Liverbird Double Marathon was under way. I went to bed sleeping on the thought, even though I knew I was in work the next day and what chance was there for an entry on the day? Anyhow I got ready for work the next morning and took my running kit as I was planning on running home. I did chuck in a couple of water bottles on the outside chance that I might manage to run a race.
Work was surprisingly quiet and problem free so my mind turned to running. I couldn’t find any way of contacting Kaja to see if I could enter on the day but after a short Facebook communication with Jogging Jon and a phone call to Travis I decided to change into my running gear, filled my water bottles and jumped into my car for the relatively short journey to Liverpool.
It was nice to meet some of the usual bunch of marathon runners and enjoy a pleasant sunny day after so much rain this month. The route was 4 laps of an out and back course along the promenade. A course which is very clever in it’s simplicity. Going the 3.3 miles out had a wonderful tail wind but each return was hard going into the wind. I started off well but I found the last lap hard going, I think my legs are still affected by having done the 10in10 only 9 days ago. My finishing time was 3 hours 43 mins 5 seconds.
Thanks to Kaja, her boyfriend and all the helpers for putting on a very friendly and well organised event.
Got a bit sun-burnt, ooops the hazzards of last minute planning!
