Brathay 10 in 10, Day 3 – Mystery Man

0

It was a dull day with low cloud and often drizzly. Not normally my kind of weather to motivate me but I found it quite good running conditions and managed another consistent paced run.

The highlight today was the finish. As I came up the drive and onto the lawn, where the finish is there was the usual small crowd made up of physios, Brathay staff and Martin the marathon the cameraman but also someone else. A man standing at the finish line in a dark coat with his face hidden behind a large SLR camera which was pointing straight at me. I didn’t pay him much attention as I crossed the finish line and dibbed my chip to record my time. As he removed the camera from his face it revealed Chris, an old good friend who I hadn’t seen for several years. It was a wonderful unexpected surprise to see him. I know he had mentioned that he might make it up to see me but I hadn’t really expected it. It was lovely that he and his partner Kathleen had taken the time to be at the finish. We had a little catch up chat before they had to go and I had to get on with my post-race eating and ice bath.
