Well this is what the starting official said as he gave us the final starting instructions just before the race got under way. Today Sunday 24th June 2012 is the first marathon in Lancaster.
The title of the race was “The Lancaster Castle Marathon”, great title and a city with a lovely castle but don’t expect to see it while you run this course. It was a shame but we were kept well away from the castle and instead the course took us along lots of lovely country lanes with some stunning scenery so I’m not going to complain.
With just short of 200 runners the field wasn’t as big as I was expecting but amongst the runners there were numerous friends and TiT’s so plenty of good company pre-race.
Above in order of appearance…Gary, Steve, Me, Chris and Paul
The weather was cool and breezy with some rain for the first 6 or 7 miles. Not bad running conditions but the wind was in my face for the last few miles before the finish which is always something I can do without.
I enjoyed yet another very well paced run with another slight negative split and I finished in 3 hour 23 minutes 50 seconds which I was very pleased with considering the very hilly course (climb 1178ft according to my Garmin).
I would like to thank Sandra once again for some great photos.
