Virgin London Marathon 2011

Everyone I speak to keeps asking “Did you do the London Marathon?”

“NO!” is the answer.

As it was a special birthday for Yuk-Lam last week and her sister offered to look after our kids, Abbey & Lucas for the weekend, we spent the weekend in Venice.  It was a magical and romantic weekend. Very relaxing and enjoyable!

The architecture, churches, squares, fascinating narrow streets and canals with their dainty bridges took me completely away from the reality of my usual life. Apart from a stretch along the front near St. Marks Square there is nowhere really to run in Venice, certainly not any real distance and not in the main part of the day when thousands of tourists are exploring St Mark’s Square and the myriad of tiny streets.

I really enjoyed the short trip and didn’t mind not running for a couple of days. It was strange going somewhere without my trainers and running kit. It was also strange not having the kids about. I kept thinking something was missing and travelling around was so easy with just the two of us.

I must admit at times my mind did wonder to thoughts of London, not only because it was London marathon weekend but of all the weekends Man City were playing Man U. at Wembley. I had friends running at London and a little part of me did wish I could have been doing it as well as being in Venice. Never mind maybe next year. Anyhow City did me proud, good lads!

We are back at home now, reunited with Abbey & Lucas and I’ve ran 10 miles before tea this evening. I now only have a couple of weeks training left before I think about tapering for the 10 in 10. It’ll soon be here and I’m getting quite excited now.
