Friday 7th Jan
I went to the Beaumount Hospital to meet a very friendly consultant who examined my ankle and had it x-rayed. His first prognosis was good, no break, the bones looked good and there was nothing obviously wrong. It looks like simply a sprained ankle and a matter of time to heal. He has booked me in for an MRI scan next Wednesday to get more detail on the injury.
Finding out from this appointment that the injury isn’t too serious, although bad enough has given me a bit of a mental boost which I must admit I need at the moment having not run for over 2 and a half weeks. This is now the worst injury I’ve had since a tendon problem after the Paris marathon in 2004.
I just can’t wait to be back running 🙁
Sunday 9th Jan
Not running is starting to drive me crazy. I’m trying to keep it to myself so not to drive all my family crazy too. The ankle is getting better. I can walk without any pain. Only certain movements and putting the join under pressure cause pain. I decided to run on it today, all be it only a very short one to see how it reacts and how it is the next morning.
The run was at a nice steady pace and went well. I must admit every landing of my right foot was quite uncomfortable for my right ankle but bearable. I was very pleased and it felt fantastic to be in my running gear out RUNNING! I even had my Christmas present on, my new Garmin.
Monday 10th Jan
Got up this morning, the ankle I hate to say seems slightly worse than yesterday so I suppose its a few more days of rest. At least it isn’t a lot worse. I was hoping that I could run and see it healing at the same time but I mustn’t be at that point yet. Same day update, the ankle has loosened up and actually does seem a bit better. I suppose patience is still the name of the game.
