Another lovely sunny day, a fraction cooler. I woke to find that both my calves were pretty tender and so was my left quad from yesterday’s fairly fast run in the warm sunshine. After some physio, courtesy of Eunice and Bruce, my legs were nicely loosened up but still sore. I decided today’s plan would be no heroics with a more comfortable pace to hopefully not aggravate my tender muscles and with a view to hopefully allowing them to heal a bit.
Out on the course I enjoyed the pleasant weather, the blankets of blue bells in the woods and gorgeous scent from the wild garlic. I kept to my race plan, keeping an easier pace of about 8:20 minute miles. I passed half way near Fell Foot Park in 1:49 and only to slow by a couple of minutes in the second half, finishing in 3:40:53. Shame I didn’t get under 3:40 but I was still happy enough with the day.

The Collins Family in Bowness…with Fudge!
It was lovely to see my family out on the course today in Bowness and at Ice Cream Mountain with some fudge for me.
My quads are sore, I think this is due to breaking when I am going downhill. This is something I haven’t experienced before and I’m putting it down to the fact I haven’t had time to train for the hilly course with only entering the event 4 weeks ago. Hopefully with the help of my physios we can keep this problem under control over the coming 8 days.
Interesting statistic for the day was it was my 40 lap of the lake.
