Yet another lovely sunny day, I can’t believe our luck so far this year with the weather. I woke up this morning much to my relief to find my calves and quads were less sore. It’s just amazes me how, some ice, physio and a meagre one night’s rest can still be enough for your body to partially heal itself.
It was lovely to see my family again out on the course today in Bowness and on Brathay Hall’s lawn at the finish. Shame this will be the last time for 5 days.
On many of the occasions when I have run this course I’ve wanted to take photos of my favourite points to keep as memories and share with friends and family. The problem is normally I’m too busy running round and conscious of my time to contemplate stopping to take pictures. As the weather today was forecast to be sunny I decided today was going to be that day when I ran with my camera and took pictures of all the things I love so much around the course.
I love running and enjoy supporting Brathay by raising them money but it is this course that really makes it so special for me. I feel so privileged to have now run it 41 times. It is especially beautiful during the month of May, the trees have bright new leaves and colourful blossoms. The blue bells are like carpets of blue in the woodland areas, the wild garlic infuses the air, When the weather is sunny there is no other place I’d rather be. If you like all I’ve just listed above and enjoy long distance running then you have to run the Brathay Windermere marathon even if only for 1 day and not 10.
Today I felt strong, I’ve ate well and physio treatment is going well, thanks to all the hard work from Eunice and Bruce. I kept up a very good pace whilst running and even though I stopped 55 times to take photos I managed to still produce a pretty impressive finishing time of 3:37:50 and 3rd place. I now have the photographic mementos I’ve longed for, for so long to cherish and share.
Tomorrow is back to the business of running and enjoying the scenery but without stopping.
