Dry Run

Friday 25th March 2011

When I first got accepted for the Brathay 10 in 10 last summer, it felt like the event was an age away. Today I’ve looked at my calendar and see it starts 7 weeks today. I think my training has gone well. I have done everything I wanted and couldn’t have really expected to have done any more.

I’m now in the final part if my training before I start tapering for the event. I’m planning a “Dry Run” of the event to start on Thursday 31st March and run till Saturday 9th April. I plan to run 160 miles in 10 days to try and replicate the event and hopefully give me a feel what it will be like to run a lot in 10 days. I have already in training managed a 100 miles in 7 days twice. If I manage 160 miles in 10 days then I’m sure it will give me the confidence to run 262 in 10 days in May. Also during the “Dry Run” I’ll still be working and doing my usual family duties. During the 10 in 10 I won’t have these other duties to carry out and will be able to rest and focus on the challenge.

I’ve listen to runners who have completed the 10 in 10, they have said that running the course each day is like your job each day so if all I have to do is run a marathon and no other work then surely I can do it.

I’m also planning on keeping a daily diary of the “Dry Run” on my blog just like I plan during the actual 10 in 10.
