Covid Precautions
What a year we have all had, Covid has affected our lives, families, work in fact everything we all normally do and take for granted. This years Brathay 10in10 should have been in May but that was postponed, and I wondered if it would take place. Well Brathay rescheduled it and put in huge amounts of effort to make it “Covid” secure and make it happen. Finally, I am here with 10 others and we have all completed day 1 without any issue. This is more a credit to Brathay than us!
Having completed the event 6 times already, I’m used to knowing what to do but that is all out of the window this year. The Covid rules in place around Brathay Hall make it all a lot different, from one-way systems in the Hall and dining room to the wearing of masks in common areas just to mention a couple.
It isn’t just the place that has had to adapt but also the event. We have less boxes out on the course for us to use and we must manage more things ourselves so no one else is touching our things like our electronic timing dibbers and bottles. More responsibility for us but I can appreciate the reasons for all this, and I don’t mind.

Brathay 10in10 2020 Day 1
The weather today was typical Lake District weather with plenty of rain, at least it wasn’t windy or cold.
I would have loved to have come into this event fitter but my main worry this year is my right knee is still not 100% and I have a niggle in my right groin. All this in mind I decided to run the day very easily to hopefully not exacerbate these issues. I ran a steady pace all the way round with little issue, so I was very relieved. My physio Zak was happy with my muscles so that was good. I have a little more confidence I can do the whole event. It will be interesting how my groin and knee is in the morning after a night resting in bed.
For the record, today was my 70th official lap of the lake and my time was 4 hours 16 minutes 57 seconds.
