London Marathon 25th April 2010

I hadn’t entered the London marathon in 2009 but as the race date neared just about every person I knew and some I didn’t were asking me whether I was running. So by the day of the race I was really gutted that I wasn’t on the start line. This made my mind up to do London in 2010.

My last few marathons have had slower times due to reduced training and hilly courses. I decided to focus my training to see if I could improve my marathon time once again, now I am at Vet40! I was curious to see how quick the old bones could go and gave myself a target time of 3 hours 15 minutes. I also knew I was applying for the Brathay 10 marathons in 10 days for 2011 and if I was to do this then I would have to adjust my training to emphasis on endurance, recovery to run the next day and slowing down my pace. I managed a to run a really steady paced race with a finishing time of 3 hours 17 minutes 35 seconds, just over 2 minutes outside my target time. This didn’t bother me as I enjoyed to run, felt good, it was still a good time and one to be pleased with.

The event was even more fantastic than last time I ran at London, the crowds just get better every time, the atmosphere around the whole course was electric. If some one wants to run a marathon and wants an unforgettable experience this is the race to do.
