Llanddona

We, and by that I mean my family are spending Easter in a little village called Llanddona in Anglesey. We often take holidays here, it is a good retreat away from our hectic lives. There are plenty of things to do for the kids and Anglesey provides me with a wealth of beautiful settings to run in.

Anglesey is an island off the Snowdonia coast in Wales and for those who haven’t visited you could be forgiven for thinking it is small and flat. Well you would be some way from the truth. The island is some 20 miles across and in some parts, although not mountainous by any stretch of the imagination, is very hilly and near Holy Head supporting some impressive cliffs.

Yuk-Lam comes flying in!

We had a couple of guests over for the weekend as Yuk-Lam’s sister Han Ket and boy-friend Phil came to stay. They are currently preparing for the Great Manchester Run in about 3 weeks’ time. I wasn’t going to let them stay without running in this idyllic setting. So Yuk-Lam, Han Ket and Phil embarked on a 5.4 mile route out of the village following the coast but high up along the hill line. This is no easy run, in fact there is no easy run in this part of the island. There are 2 communication masts in this area which tells you this is one of the highest and hilliest parts of the island which is even more impressive when you think it is less than a mile from the coast. All three ran well in the pleasant mild and very sunny conditions. Yuk-Lam stormed home in 58 minutes, second was Phil in a strong 1 hour 2 minutes and rounding off with Han Ket in her usual steady manner and hardly out of breath, 1 hour 5 minutes. Well done to all three! I ran the route later in the day in 39 minutes 25 seconds and at 7 minutes 16 second miles it’s the fastest I’ve run for over six months, not bad on

a hilly course.
