This challenge has had a bizarre connection with the number 13. It started on Friday 13th of May, There were 13 of us who started the challenge on that first day and my running number was 13.
As the days of the challenge passed the camaraderie of us, the participants, grew as we supported each other through the tough times. I’m not sure who started it, maybe Mark but we created a saying “13 out, 13 in” meaning 13 of us went out every morning to run the marathon and we wanted 13 back. When we finished each run we would meet up in either the Wordsworth or Goldsworthy rooms in the Hall for lunch, a change of clothes and a stretch. We would watch eagerly through the windows to see our team mates arrive back and when they came in we would give them a loud cheer.
I never mentioned it but while out running for hours I actually thought the saying could have a second meaning. 13 miles out down the lake and 13 miles back up the other side to the finish.
This is the first running of the event where all the entrants that have started on day one have finished, 13 out 13 back!
