Quadzilla – 4 marathons in 4 days

9th to 12th February 2012

Even though this event is pretty much at the beginning of the year I have actually planned this as the year’s main challenge.

It consists of running round the Caldecotte lake in Milton Keynes 7 times each day. It is a very pleasant lake set in park land. The path round the lake is totally traffic free and made of tarmac so it is an easy surface to run on.

Day 1

Freezing! And that is no exaggeration!
I don’t think the temperature rose above zero all day. It was cloudy but at least there was no wind or I would have dread to think how cold it would have felt. I spent a lot of the race running with Roger from Teignbridge Trotters, good company and helped the laps pass by. As it was day 1 and I was feel very fresh I think I might have run a bit too fast for the first 5 laps so lap 6 I slowed it down then pretty much jogged the last lap. My finishing time today was 3 hours 42 minutes, 50 seconds. I’m very pleased with the time, lets just hope I haven’t gone too quick and it effects the next 3 days.

I must thank “Foxy” Dave for arranging the event and for spending the whole day standing out in this weather counting us barmy runners going round and round the lake. Also to his wife Tracey for cooking the most wonderful soft chocolate biscuits for us to enjoy each lap, they were absolutely delicious!

After the race I checked into the hotel at the side of the lake and had a beautiful soak in a hot bath which turned my white fingers back to a more human pink colour. This was definitely not a day for an ice bath!
