80 today

Today at the Lakeland Trail marathon I completed my 80th marathon. My goal for the last couple of years has been to run 100 marathons. Last week  I was accepted by the Brathay Trust to run the 10in10 in 2013. Now the focus of my running must changed to training for the 10in10 and reaching 100 will have to take a back seat.

This means moving away from my current running pattern of regularly running marathons roughly every other week to reach my target of 100, to fitting in marathon doubles and blocks of high mileage with recovery periods in between.

It seems like my quest to get to 100 will now be more of a inevitability as last time I did the 10in10 I did 18 marathons in the 10 months training leading up to the event. This means similar training for the 10in10 this time will mean I’ll be reaching 100 by a matter of course roughly as I start my next 10in10 challenge in May next year.

Thinking about these two challenges, I would like to complete the 100 before or at the beginning of the 10in10 so during the 10in10 I will only be focusing on one thing. As the 10in10 is by far the most difficult of the 2 challenges and will need all my mental concentration and physical effort to complete it successfully. Completing the 10in10 is the priority but I would like to do it quicker than last time and if possible every day under 4 hours. So there are my goals laid down, all I need to do now is the training!

Over the coming few weeks I need to plan my training schedule for the Autumn and the rest of the year, which generally means picking marathons to enter and where to do my blocks of high mileage.
