After my double marathon weekend 3 weeks ago in pink to raise money for breast cancer, I wondered whether to have another pink outing just for a laugh. I poled it on Facebook with a huge majority saying “PINK” so I thought why not.
I got a lot of interest from the lady spectators and quite a few cheers with the following comments:-
Pink Panther
Looking good in pink
Sexy in pink (liked this one)
Like the pink
Super Pink
But from a little boy sat on gate post I got, “Don’t you ever wear that again!”
From the men, it was generally more of a puzzled look but at least my friends spoke to me!
At times during the day especially waiting before the start of the race I wondered why some people were staring at me then I remembered what I was wearing, funny I don’t really look at myself so forgot I was glow bright pink in the wonderful sunshine.
So far into a blog post and I haven’t mentioned where I am, Luton marathon, one of the last road marathons of the calendar, a 3 lap affair. It has been criticized by some due to it being cancelled a couple of times in the past because of bad weather but this is my second time here and I’ve found it a well organised race and thoroughly enjoyable.
After such a busy marathon schedule over the last 9 weeks I wasn’t planning to push the pace too hard but thought I would see how I felt on the day. Within 1 mile of the race I found myself in the friendly company of Gary and Steve (the fasties!) I felt compelled to run with them. I should have known this was a bad idea and by the end of the first lap I found I was inside my fastest pace all year! I felt good so decided to continue through lap 2, actually getting a head of both Gary and Steve. But by half way round lap 3 my energy levels were fading and Steve went passed effortlessly. I finished in a very pleasing 3 hours 16 minutes 17 seconds, 3rd fastest time of the year and for the last 10 years. Thanks to Steve and Gary, if it wasn’t for them I wouldn’t have gone nearly as fast.
