Shelley’s Sweet Stall
Finishing time
3 hours 44 minutes 7 seconds
Weather
Steady rain for the first 2 thirds of the run, then slowly it dried and brightened up. Quite breezy in parts.
Today’s Highlight and Low Points
I’m putting these two together today.
My low point was how I felt this morning, very tired both mentally and physically. I found it hard to just get up, have breakfast and get my sorry body down to the physio’s room. To make my motivation for today’s run even worse the weather was steady rain with a cold wind. I knew it was going to be a tough run today.
The highlight wasn’t one single thing but several that all helped me round the course and counteracted the low point just mentioned above. At almost every 2 mile water stop there seemed to be someone to offer an encouraging word and a smile. Funny how even a smiling face can sometimes make all the difference. It is always good to see race manager Aly out on the course but equally great to keep seeing my friend Jim Meta. Also out on the course were some of the physios including the smiling Shiva and his brother. Lastly I also need to mention Shelley with her sweet stall in her car boot, I savoured the white mice at mile 10. On top of all these people, there were also many more people simply driving past and pipping their horns. One white car slowed down to drive along side with me and the man in the passenger seat shouted encouraging words to me through his open window. All these things helped me forget the tiredness and with the rain stopping during the second half I got into my running and found the mental strength to manage another very consistent time.
In the end I was very pleased with how the day turned out and it’s another one done!
