January’s training has in the main gone to plan. I had planned to run 3 marathons during the month which I’ve achieved. Nice to get under 3:30 at Newcastle Race course, it gives me confidence that I still have some good marathon speed in my legs.

I am struggling with a sore right knee and also a little pain in my left knee. Running doesn’t seem to be making them any worse but sadly they don’t seem be getting any better either. For the moment I have elected to continue running and monitor them. I have taken a few extra rest days just to give the knees some respite from the training and in doing so only managed 213 miles for the month, where I was hoping to be nearer 250. I’m not too worried about not quite hitting this goal and I’m looking forward to running in February to see if I can continue this level of training and if possible push it on a bit with my first double marathon of the year (2 marathons in 2 days).

If you think all my effort is worth it then please help me raise money for the Brathay Trust and support them in their valuable work with disadvantage young people in our society by giving a donation to my JustGiving page:-
