Total mileage for the month 275
I’m very pleased with how this month’s training has gone. I had planned it to be my peak mileage month with the most marathons and that is what I’ve achieved. Two sets of the marathons were doubles (as I call them) which is 2 marathons in 2 days and makes for great 10in10 training. As well as the endurance I’m building up, I am also pleased with my speed. The Groundhog track marathon was the fastest marathon I have run for a couple of years and it even wasn’t my plan to run that fast.
It has been very hard work fitting in all the training and I’m very relieved to have got this far without any injury. I do have several niggles especially my left ankle which hurts when I do certain movements but not while running. Also my right knee, which had the operation just over a year ago, sometimes has a sharp pain on the inside of the joint.
I worry I’m just pushing my luck and wonder when it is going to run out. I’m very concerned about picking up an injury close to the 10n10 and go into the event injured, that would be worse than having an injury a month or two ago and not having completed as much training but at least going into the event injury free. This is where the final stage of the challenge comes down to having a bit of luck. I have only 3 weeks training left then it is time to taper so hopefully even my niggles will have gone before I arrive at Brathay for day 1 of the 10in10 on the 8th May.
After all this hard cold winter training, I’m looking forward to tapering through the latter half of April and running the two big city marathons of Manchester and London.
I’m pleased to report that my fund raising is well on target. My Gin Pit Double marathon weekend on 21st & 22nd March raised £2112.13 for Brathay and bringing my total now close to £5,000.00. My target is £7,000.00 and hope to get to this by the end of to 10in10 in May. If you can spare a donation please help me get closer to my goal and let’s help as many young people as possible:-
