The weather today was much better than expected. I had gone to bed with the rain lashing down and a forecast suggested light rain for a good proportion of the day. Fortunately the rain had stopped and as the time passed during the run, the clouds lightened and even the sun came out towards the very end. I was so relieved not to have a cold wet day.
My high point of the day was seeing my family at Bowness and being handed out some yummy fudge. I’m also going to have a second high point which was shortly afterwards when the family drove past me with Lucas’s smiling face sticking out of the window shouting me. It was lovely to see his happy face all excited cheering me along!
The low point of the day was before the race. I’d had a very bad night’s sleep and woke up feeling more tired than when I had gone to bed. I found it a struggle to concentrate and get ready to run. Experience has taught me that sleep wouldn’t affect my running, it is hydration and food that are important so I wasn’t concerned but just flagging.
Most of the race was again spent running on my own but I got a regular boost as drivers beeped their horns and passengers shouted and clapped from their cars. Most of these were complete strangers so the word is definitely spreading about what we are all doing and was really fabulous unexpected support.
I was pleased to get to the half way point in exactly the same time as yesterday, 1 hour 48 minutes 30 seconds. And even more pleased to feel good during the second half and post a negative split by nearly 4 minutes finishing in 3 hours 33 minutes 10 seconds.
Physio was much more painful tonight! Hopefully I’ve not been going too fast and going to pay for it over the coming days.
