The title of this day’s blog might at first seem like a contradiction.
Even with the regular physio treatment, I am progressively getting slightly more sore each day. My calves are now very tender to the touch but not actually injured and I’m fine using them to run. This might seem strange to a none runner but it is amazing what you can make muscles do even when they are bruised to the touch. The physio treatment is also getting progressively more painful but I do believe it is giving me a lot of benefit by keeping me flexible and my muscles supple and knot free.
As the days go by my body seems to be adapting to this regular huge amount of daily exercise. It’s like it is conditioning itself to the daily task. In the same way some people get used to doing some heavy manual tasks in their daily jobs. Every night I lie in bed and find it hard to relax and sleep as my body is working overtime. Whilst lying still I can feel my pulse down the length of both my legs as my body tries to repair from the punishment they have been subjected to early in the day. They go very warm and throb. I’m also eating loads of food to replace the calories which I’m burning up and I never seem to feel full. So on top of repairing itself my body is trying to digest loads of food. For these reasons I might be happy lying in bed and resting but find it very hard to sleep with all these internal bodily functions working so hard.
My running might not be getting any faster but I do believe I am getting more consistent and in a wired way my body is getting used to this new daily routine which it is becoming accustomed to and therefore fitter.
I just wonder, if I had the opportunity how long I could actually keep this going and how far I would adapt, indefinitely or would the body completely break down at some point?
Anyhow day 8 is done and another decent time of 3:31:27. A faster first half but I paid for it a bit during the second half. I’m pleased to have had another dry day with some nice spells of sunshine. Good weather is a great help with my motivation and I hope it holds for the final 2 days.
