Brathay 10in10 2020 Day 6

0

The most talked about thing this 10in10 is the weather, it has rained so much and been thoroughly horrible. It makes it so difficult to keep you spirts high when the weather is so continually bad. Today started off the same way and in fact a little worse as we endured a hail shower within 15 minutes. I was relieved this was short lived and the rain showers subsided. Most of the time out on the course was actually dry, this was a massive boost for me and I’m sure for the rest of the team. We still had a few good sharp showers and a bit more hail at one point. Coming out of Bowness towards Ambleside we has a very heavy shower, this soon passed to be replaced by sunshine and directly in front of me with the most fabulous rainbow so vivid and bright, the like I don’t think I have ever seen before. Sorry no mobile with me so no photo to share, you’ll just have to believe me.

With the weather being better you might expect me to romp home with a faster time and on many occasions in the past this is what I would have done but not today. Sadly, my niggles and injuries are multiplying, I now have quite a list;

Left IT band

Left quad

Left Achilles

Right shin

Right groin

None of them are a game ender but they are all contributing to making my running difficult and painful. I’m struggling to find a comfortable way to run. I certainly can’t find a smooth balanced running style, something I’m usually well known for.

Zak and me in pre-race physio

Today was very much mind over matter, coupled with perseverance. I hope Zak’s physio this afternoon helps and there is a bit of improvement tomorrow or else it is going to be another tough day out on the course.

Voom Nutrition are sponsoring the event and I’m enjoying their hydration drink, protein shakes and bars which I am using on a daily basis. They are feeling kind on my stomach and fuelling me well. I would recommend them to anyone looking for sports nutrition. If you want to find out more about them there is a link to their website at the bottom of my blog.

At least I finished and mentally feel fine. Quite a landmark day, it was my 75th official marathon around the course. A record I keep breaking daily, hopefully I can break it 4 more times over the coming 4 days. I still have a strong mental resolve to do this and know that finishing times are incidental. I will also be the first person ever to complete the Brathay 10in10, 7 times if I can finish so I’m committed to giving it my all.

Rest up team and support crew, sounds from the weather forecast we are in for a bumpy ride tomorrow.
