I started my Brathay 10 marathons in 10 days journey back in June 2010, when Aly Knowles from Brathay rang me up to offer me a place in the 2011 10in10. I was terrified and excited in equal measures that year, while I prepared to take on this once in a lifetime ultimate marathon challenge. It was a brutal running event and even the fundraising for Brathay is a challenge but loved every minute of it.

Then I went back in 2013, with the excuse of answering the questions; Could I do it again? Was the first time just a fluke? After that I still had the appetite for more and wondered if I could go faster so I was back in 2015 and indeed I did complete it faster, with my best average time of 3 hour 31 minutes 56 seconds per day.

I think it was after about the 5th Brathay 10in10 Joss Naylor the race’s patron, teased me with the challenge to do it 10 times. For the last few years this has become my focus and goal. The 8th and 9th 10in10’s have felt more like a job just to get to this 10th attempt. I long to complete the Brathay 10in10 TEN times, I also want my parents and family see me achieve this very personal, 12 year, endurance feat and especially for Joss, who isn’t in the best of health at the moment. I hope he gets the chance to see me complete this challenge that he set me.

It would be nice to complete in under an average of 4 hours 30 minutes 4 seconds per day as this was my slowest 10in10 back in 2020.

I want to do it without taking any pain killers or anti-inflammatories which I have only done on the last two days of my first 10in10 when I pulled my calf. All my other 10in10’s have been completed without taking any medication. I would also like to do it without requiring to use Rock Tape. I like to complete my 10in10’s naturally, with as little medical intervention as possible!

Not long now, all I can do is try and we will all have to see what happens.
