The Freebie

The Start

Day 1 of the 10in10 is what I call a “Freebie”. We have all been preparing to run 10 marathons in 10 days and most of us have run several marathons in training. This means running day 1 is nothing unusual for us and hence a freebie. The event really starts tomorrow as we take on day 2, which even for some of the runners will be new territory and from then on it will get progressively harder.

The weather was wonderfully kind today, sunny, starting cool but warming up with a light breeze. It got a little warm for a few today but I really enjoyed it. The sunny weather set of the beautiful Lake District with the new lime green leaves on the trees and the blue bells, topped off with the scent of wild garlic in the air. I felt so blessed to be able to run through such a truly special place.

I must thank everyone for your messages of support and all the donations, it will be really welcomed by Brathay.

I’ve got to admit, I’m a bit of a running statistics freak and today was a very special milestone for me, it was my 100th official Windermere marathon. I have completed 95 Brathay 10in10’s and 5 of the single day marathons. I wonder if anyone else in the world has ever managed to run 100 marathons on the same road marathon course?

At the evening meal tonight. I was presented with one of Andy Rennie’s awards for my 100 marathons. It was a very appropriate as it was a pint glass reciting the distance of a marathon in mile, yards, feet and meters. Right up my street.

Time for bed and then I can do it all over again tomorrow.
